RE: Dual Motor Landing Gear

I had a similar problem with my old cedar creek. I broke 2 gear boxes in two years, it would shear where the cross bar mounted to the gear box. It ended up being cheaper to install a second motor, and the added connivence was well worth the install.

RE: Get Behind the 32" T.V. on 2008 KZ Escalade???

on ours it has 2 screws that hold it in place. Had to do some feeling around to find them. Also you'll have to figure out how the mount is mounted (sideways or from the top. The one for our livingroom was top loading and the bedroom was side loading. Our mounts, the screws were opposite the way it loaded. Hope this helps.

RE: Cedar Creek Silverback

Some floor plans have changed to the GII, but all other silverbacks will now be cedar creeks
The bear is now dead, but there were some 2009's 36L5S (we have one) before the changes, but it was built back in apr-may.
The one floor plan that has been changed from silverback to G II is the 35L4QB it is now 36WQB

RE: Manually Getting Slide out Back in

I had to do it once with my 2004 cedar creek (2 slides). It did not take that much torque (far less then rear jacks needed). The new unit might be a little harder with 5 slides.

RE: Would like fuel alternatives on new generator.

question for anyone that does diesel work,
could you install a aux fuel supply hose from a diesel gen in your 5th wheel to a hookup in your tow vehicle? That way you would have (in my case) a 40 gal diesel tank. Of course you would have to be able to unhook the fuel line while moving.

RE: Would like fuel alternatives on new generator.

what about a diesel generator that can run on fossil diesel or biodiesel? Willie Nelson runs all his buses on biodiesel (and maybe a little hemp???)
I can currently get biodiesel (B100) in my area for less then regular diesel. With the new refineries and sources (algae, switch grass) prices should keep going down in the next few years

RE: Myrtle Beach questions

We just got back from pirate land, this was our first and last time that we will ever go there. While the lazy river was nice and most of the other visitors were helpful that was the extent of the positive. The golf carts were out of control. It was a mixture of the Daytona 500 and Spring break. The rules state only licensed drivers, if that is the case there are 8 year olds with their drivers license.
There is a wide spread ant infestation that most of the returning campers knew of. The store has stocked up on spray but no one told us until we were knee deep in ants. So if you do go there spray every part of your camper that touches the ground.
The sites were so close together that it was extremely difficult to get my 39' 5th wheel into any of the sites. When i asked for a new site they said that they only figure the length of the unit (not the added length of the TV) So practice your tight maneuvering.
The only site that have shelters / paved pads are the premium sites.
The bath houses were scumy and dirty. In addition there was wide spread under age smoking inside them even though it is clearly marked no smoking.

RE: Mystery Alarm

the sensor in a smoke alarm will sense moisture or even dust and will alarm. We had this happen this last weekend in Myrtle Beach. This should go away when the battery dies (LOL)

If you do go the Sirius way read this first. You wont get a signal all the time, and depending on how far north (and your equipment) you may not get a signal at all.

RE: Know any millionaires?

Dont know this guy but i hear he could be in a campground near you.
The girlfriend of a fugitive hedge fund manager who faked his own death to avoid a 20-year sentence was collared today after it emerged she helped him pack a getaway RV and hide it at a highway rest stop, authorities said.
Debra L. Ryan, 45, was busted early in the afternoon by marshals at the rundown Armonk home she'd rented with Samuel Israel. She was hauled off to White Plains federal court and charged with aiding and abetting Israel in his failure to surrender to a federal lockup.
Meanwhile, U.S. Marshals put out a nationwide alert for Israel, who's believed to be driving a 2007 white Coachman Freelander motor home. Israel is believed to still be in the area and living in the RV, which may have a blue, 2005 Yamaha motor scooter strapped to the back end.
The New York plate number on the motor home is EEN-5973.
Israel, convicted of bilking $450 million from investors through his firm, Bayou Group LLC, has been at large since he failed to show up to start a 20-year federal prison term June 9.
That day, his SUV was found abandoned on the Bear Mountain bridge, with the words "Suicide is Painless" scrawled in dust on the hood. Investigators this week said the suicide scene was staged.
Since Israel's disappearance, Ryan has repeatedly lied to investigators and withheld information, according to the criminal complaint against her.
She even told State Police she'd found a suicide note from her beau, the papers allege.
But yesterday, Ryan cracked and admitted to marshals that, beginning on June 7, she started helping Israel with his getaway plan.
Ryan, the complaint claims, admitted that she went to a Bedford, N.Y. auto repair shop with Israel and helped him attach the motor scooter to a hydraulic lift on the back of the RV.
The next day, Ryan "helped Israel pack the RV with belongings," according to the complaint.
And, on the morning he vanished, Israel "woke up and told her that he needed her help" and then had her follow him, in her own car, while he drove the motor home to a highway rest area near the junction of Interstate 684 and Interstate 84.
Ryan then drove Israel back to their house, according to the complaint.
Ryan - an artist who makes money decorating the homes of wealthy Westchester residents for Chirstmas - was ashen and soft-spoken during a 3-minute court appearance Thursday.
She was released on $75,000 bond, and has until Monday morning to produce a co-signer. She surrendered her passport and is under pre-trial supervision.
Wearing rolled magenta shorts, a white T-shirt and khaki jacket, she quietly answered, "yes, your honor" when asked by a judge if she understood the conditions of her release.
Authorities said Israel could be hiding out an RV park, campground or highway rest area. He may be using the aliases "Sam Ryan' ' or "David Clapp, " and has a tattoo of a bird on his left arm. He takes narcotics for a severe back ailment and is a prescription drug abuser; he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Investigators also said his RV may have body damage on the rear passenger side.
The plates on the motor home are registered to the person who sold it to Israel, but that person is not involved in the disappearance, law enforcement sources said.
Anyone with information should contact the U.S. Marshals at 800-336-0102.

RE: Cedar Creek Silverback vs. Arctic Fox 5er

We have a 2009 silverback 36L5S and we would not trade it for anything, IMHO the whole cedar creek brand has come a long way in the last few years. Our last unit was a 2004 cedar creek and our new unit has the "higher end unit" feeling.

RE: Oh My Aching Head!!!!

We just picked up our 2009 36L5S on friday and we love it. Its our 2nd cedar creek (first being a 2004 362BBS) and the new one IMHO is build much nicer. We got just about everything on it including the 2nd AC (i would think this would be a must down south, works great up here), 2 jack knife couches in the back, and the chrome 8 lug wheels. We ordered it with just about everything with the plan that we are going to keep it until we retire. Another plus is the auto awning and auto rear jacks come standard.
As far as tow vehicle, don't skimp on the truck, go with a one ton, and duel rear wheels cant hurt. I have a SRW 350 ford diesel and it does well. Not sure what i weigh (going to do that later this week) but the ford pulls it just fine.
Let me know if you have any other questions

RE: Having second thoughts

Try looking at it this way.
Back when diesel was $4 a gal it would cost us ~$200 in fuel for a 500 mile trip (saying we were getting 10 mpg). Now that same 500 mile trip at $5 a gal (its still a little lower then that) cost ~$250. Even back when diesel was $3 a gal that same trip was only $100 less then now.
While i agree that the prices are out of hand, how many here can save $50 while on vacation? With four kids all we have to do is stay home one night and eat at the camper and we have made up for the price rise for fuel.

RE: Keystone Sat.TV splitter?

I might be able to help with this, while i am not a professional, this is information i have learned through trial and error while wiring my own house and 5th wheel.
where some might be having problems here is how sat signals are sent out after the dish. In the olden days a splitter could send cable signals out to multiple tv's using one source.
With sat tv, signals have to be sent using different polarities (think even and odd chan's) this is done to compress more tv into less space. So with current dishtv and directv in order to use more then one tv you need what is called a multi-switch. These come in different configurations (how many tv's you can hook up) most home setups will have between 4-6 outputs. In order to do this you have to have two inputs (this is done with a dual LMB, the device at the end of the dish)
So, in order to watch more then one tv in most campers will require some rewiring.
1) You will need a dish with a dual LMB. Not a big deal because most dishes these days have them
2) You will need 2 wires running from the LMB to the camper. Again not a big deal, you can get these dual wires (2 wires that are connected together from any sat dealer. Cost a little more, or you can have 2 sets of unconnected wire running from the dish to the camper. But either way you must have 2 wires in order to watch more then 1 sat tv at the same time
3) All of the hookups that i have seen on the outside of the camper only have 1 hookup for sat and one for cable. My guess is that with some tinkering one could use these 2 for the sat. But depending on how the wiring is done, some changes might need to be done. So my suggesting would be to stop using the factory sat hookup and make a new one somewhere under the camper. Doesnt have to be fancy just 2 wires somewhere easy to get to so you can connect the dish wires to.
4) Once you have these 2 wires where you want them you need to find an easy place to mount your multi-switch. You will connect the 2 wires coming from the dish side into the source side of the multi switch. Then from the multi switch you can run as many wires as needed (or as possible, depending on the size of the multi switch). Let say you have a DVR in the family room of the camper, you will need 2 wires coming from the multi switch to run this unit. If you are only running a simple sat receiver you will only need wire. If you want a connection in the kids room, the master room or even outside you will need a separate wire from the multi switch for each location.
5) Once all that is done you will be able to watch as many tv's at the same time. Not really a hard fix, but it requires a basic understanding of how sat communications works. If needed i could make up a diagram if someone would like it. Below is a link to a google search for multiswitch's.
Note- Now if you are planning on watching more then 1 HDTV (with HDTV receiver) it is my understanding that you need 4 wires running from the dish to a HD multi switch
multi switch
Hope this explains things / Rob
